Manufacturing science , published in 2010 by east-west press pvt ltd, is the second edition of the popular textbook on mechanical engineering written by acclaimed indian authors, amitabha ghosh and ashok kumar mallik. The first chapter is about the manufacturing properties of various materials. In the subsequent chapters, the authors lucidly explain key manufacturing processes such as machining, joining, forming, and casting, including a chapter on unconventional machining processes. The final chapter talks about the modern manufacturing technologies like generative manufacturing, self-assembly, and liga process. Amitabha ghosh is a well-known author of textbooks on mechanical engineering. He completed b.E (mechanical), m.E (mechanical), and ph.D. (engineering) from calcutta university. His teaching career included stints at bengal engineering college as lecturer and indian institute of technology as assistant professor and professor. His other books include origin of inertia: extended mach's principle and cosmological consequences, theory of mechanisms and machines, and algorithmic aspects of throughput-delay performance for fast data collection in wireless sensor networks . Apart from the textbooks, dr. Ghosh is credited with publishing more than 100 research papers on various topics of engineering mechanics and manufacturing science. Ashok kumar mallik is a professor in the department of mechanical engineering, iit, kanpur, and has interest in research topics such as vibration control, machinery dynamics, and kinematics. He has authored a book on vibration control called principles of vibration control.
