'The book on Petroleum Geology of India an attempt of its kind, to be useful for postgraduate students of Science (Geology and Geophysics) and graduate students of Engineering and Technology studying the courses in petroleum science and technology in various Institutions. It is also useful to geoscientists, engineers and technologists working in the oil industries dealing with exploration, production. The book provides information on petroleum exploration processes involved in petroleum generation, migration and accumulation in sedimentary basins, maturation of source rocks, and evaluation of their genetic potential. It deals with the principles and applications of sub-surface geological, geochemical, and geophysical including both surface and logging methods and also drilling technologies for both hydrocarbon exploration and production prospecting of hydrocarbons for prioritising
targets for further exploration. In addition to basic principles, the book deals with the occurrence and distribution of petroleum in all sedimentary basins of India with reference to categorization based on their present potential. It also deals with principles of reservoir engineering for optimal and safe oil and gas production based on reservoir characterizations following geological principles. It also elaborates knowledge based role in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations. Since oil and gas industry is more vulnerable to price scenario briefly it informs the nature of political up and downs related to oil sales. Though the oil exploration dates back in India dates more than one and of century it is difficult for students to have the attempts made in different sedimentary basins of India with all available statistical data at a place. It is the first attempt of that kind to provide the learners on the subject. In all subjects where ever possible case studies of Indian oil and gas fields are provided for better understanding. This also helps the geologists, geophysicist, engineers and technologists working in various oil companies engaged in hydrocarbon exploration and production to have fair inter-disciplinary knowledge on the subject.'
