Process Heat Transfer is a classic textbook, unique in the sense that it uses the methods and language of industries while explaining concepts. The subject matter of the book is derived from a course taught for a number of years at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
The practical aspects of theory have been emphasized throughout the text, but the author has still intended for them to serve only as a supplement to the core fundamental theory of process heat transfer. Empirical calculation methods, previously absent in engineering literature, have been included in the text, so that students and practising engineers are acquainted with the numerous process heat transfer tools used in industries. These methods have been published after having been scrutinized by many engineers.

Presenting the entire spectrum of the subject from fundamentals to practical applications would have resulted in a very large text, proving it inconvenient for conventional use. To make it readable for a large audience, Process Heat Transfer omits those sections of heat transfer that would not be used in solving the traditional problems of heat transfer. However, fundamental theory has not been compromised in any way.

Process Heat Transfer consists of twenty-one chapters in addition to the chapter index to the Principal Apparatus Calculations. Temperature, Conduction, Radiation, and Convection are some of the chapters that follow the introductory chapter Process Heat Transfer. Other chapters include Streamline Flow and Free Convection, 1-2 Parallel-Counterflow: Shell-and-Tube Exchangers, Counterflow: Double Pipe Exchangers, Flow Arrangements for Increased Heat Recovery, Evaporation, Calculations for Process Condition, Extended Surfaces, Vaporizers, Evaporators, and Reboilers, Furnace Calculations, Batch and Unsteady State Processes, and Additional Applications. Appendix of Calculation Data is an appendix present in the book.

The term Process Heat Transfer found widespread understanding and use after the publication of the 1950 edition of Process Heat Transfer.
Process Heat Transfer is a reference text that presents a clear understanding of heat transfer as used and applied in industries.
